Writing a cover letter
Writing a cover letter is really a way to let the person who is going to be
reading it know that you put thought and enthusiasm into whatever position you
are applying for, as opposed to having simply pulled out the resumes you apply
to everything with, It should also point out anything in one’s resumes that you
feel is particularly applicable to the position.
Specializing your resume
Many cover letter writers feel daunted by the cover letter, and many even opt
to submit their resume without one to avoid making a
bad impression with it. Though it is true that a badly written cover letter will
make even the best written resumes look bad, writing a cover letter is great
opportunity to make resumes stand out, and to say whatever you would want to say
to the person who is hiring you about the position in the length of time that
you would have in maybe an elevator. You want your cover letter to be brief, but
as specific to the position as possible. It should never sound like a form
letter. Your potential interview may be on the line.
You should also think about appearance in terms of paper, layout, and font, but
unless it is a very special circumstance, you should not use anything too
outlandish. Look at the careers you are applying for to see what are the
expected forms of writing style.
