Write a resume that will land you that interview
You know how the bouncer decides who gets into the hot night spot? The
recruiter is the bouncer at gazillions of companies out there for whom you’ve
targeted to work. In order to get past that gate-keeper, you must learn to write
a resume that will not only get past their trash can
but will stay on their mind until they grant you an
interview.
Writing resumes to get interviews is just a matter of following
a few key ideas
Here are some tips on how to write a winner resume:
• Make sure your resume follows an acceptable format. Don’t have a resume that
is hard to follow because it didn’t follow standard resume writing guidelines.
This is a resume, not a blog.
• The number one secret to writing a resume that will get you an interview is to
tailor your resume to that specific job opening. Yes, this takes a lot of time
but consider what the impact will be. The recruiter’s eyes will light up when
they come across the candidate PERFECT for their job.
• Short of that, make sure you use plenty of industry specific buzz words in you
resume for each type of job that you are tailoring. This will help with getting
your resume picked up in scanning software.
• Before you send your resume anywhere, make sure you get another set of eyes on
it. And not your goofy friend that thinks everything looks okay. See if your
sister-in-law, the librarian, would look at your resume.
Don’t focus so much on writing your resume that you don’t consider other aspects
of your job seeking process: study your career market, practice salary
negotiations, and learn interviewing skills. While you’re job searching, pursue
education to advance your career.
Distance learning provides you the opportunity to work, look for a job and
go to school, all at the same time!
