Sample essays help you understand what you’re writing
Thankfully, sample essays are usually available when you’ve assigned to write
your own essay. When pursuing your education, expect
to be assigned many essays to write, especially if you’re in an online program
which defers online tests to written essays. Many online programs, such as the
University of Phoenix, prefer written essays because they find the idea of
cheating makes online tests too hard to proctor or accept as valid.
Don’t plagiarize or risk your education
As is with just about anything else that you learn in a classroom, learning
how to write an essay is easier when you have a couple of samples to look at and
study first. Looking at a sample essay can help you the following ways:
• If the topic is the same or similar, looking at a sample essay can help build
your confidence of your own treatment of the topic. If somebody else came to the
same conclusion, then your ideas can’t be all that bad.
• If the sample essay is a similar type essay (i.e. descriptive, persuasive, or
a college entrance type), then it can help you better understand the format that
you’re trying to write in.
• Finally, it helps to further develop your own essay writing skills when you
can successfully critique other essays for their format and treatment.
One caution, however! Just because you can study a sample essay doesn’t mean you
should try to plagiarize that sample essay. Most online programs use tools to
catch plagiarizers and plagiarizing short-changes your educational experience.
Future online jobs or careers could be jeopardized for cheaters.
