Job Interview Tips that will increase your salary
Here are some job interview tips that will increase your salary:
Tip # 1. Do your homework before you go into a job
interview. Find out what the salary range is for the work you’re targeting.
Find out, if possible, how much your target employer is already paying people in
the same or similar position. You can do much of your recon work on job search
sites like Career Builder. Have a rough idea what your interviewer is getting
paid before you start throwing out numbers for yourself.
Tip # 2. Don’t discuss salary requirements until you’ve nailed the job
interview. Once the interviewer starts talking about when you can start, you
know they want you more than you need them.
Tip # 3. Never, never, never give out a number first during salary negotiations
in an interview. If the interviewer asks you how much you’d like to get paid,
ask the interviewer what the pay range is for the position that you are
interviewing for.
Tip # 4. Don’t be held back by your current salary. Don’t lie when pressed about
your current salary during a job interview but make it clear that one of the
reasons you’re looking for a new job is that you are under challenged (and
therefore underpaid) at your current job.
Tip# 5. If you don’t get the salary that you were hoping for, don’t write the
job interview off 100%. See if you can get other things added on to your offer
that sweetens the pot.
Tip # 6. Don’t say “yes” or “no” right on the spot during the interview. It’s an
important decision and you need time to think it through.
