Job boards get employers and candidates in touch
Job boards have a longer history than job search sites because of their
simplicity. Taking a cue from our traditional bulletin boards, a job board is
nothing more than a set of job postings
online. While they don’t usually have the sophisticated search or job agent
tools that a more elaborate job search site has, a job board can still work for
many job hunters.
Careers job sites like career builder help match up needs
A job board can help people push their careers
forward because it will often contain jobs that need to be filled “yesterday.”
Here is an idea of when a job board might work for you:
• If you have a specific job skill or career that has a very narrow niche. Foot
models would be a good example.
• If you are only interested in working in a specific area. Martha’s Vineyard or
Marathon, Florida come to mind. Craig’s List is a good example of a location
specific online board.
• If you are interested in a smaller company. Many smaller companies are
inundated by replies when they post jobs on large job search sites so they
sometimes will look for smaller boards to post their openings.
So while it always makes sense to try the larger
job search sites, don’t overlook a job board that could have your name on
it.
