Descriptive essay requires being in touch with subject
If you’re taking an English class or distance learning courses, it’s only a
matter of time before you’re assigned a descriptive essay to write. While
working on educating yourself, you’ll find that you’ll need to write many essays
for course credit. It can be hard to start writing an essay, especially one with
a required style to it.
Expect in-depth understanding of education subjects at a gut
level
Thankfully, descriptive essays in your education
can be easy to write as long as you follow a couple of simple rules:
• Pick a subject that comes easy to you. Don’t challenge yourself by picking a
subject that will be hard to describe. Why spend more time on your essay
researching the subject than actually describing it?
• Even with an essay that doesn’t really require any logic to it, spend the time
to construct your essay.
Descriptive Essays should be broken into the following sections:
• Introduction
• Body
• Conclusion
In the Introduction of your essay, talk about what you’re going to describe. You
might even give a little “what’s in it for me” explanation (why should the
reader read your essay).
In the body of your essay, break your description up into 3-5 paragraphs, each
one paragraph focusing on a particular sense that you’ll use to describe your
subject: sight, smell, hearing, feeling (touch), taste, and how it makes you
feel emotionally. If you can weave your emotional reaction to your other senses
though out the paragraphs, it should make your essay read stronger.
For the conclusion of your essay, don’t repeat what you’ve already described.
Instead, try to answer the reader’s question, “what did I just get out of
reading this essay?”
Writing an essay in a descriptive style will also help you diversify your
style when applying for those online jobs and careers with great cover letters
and your resume.
