College essay put butterflies in your stomach?
Afraid of writing your college essay? You’ve planned on going to college,
you’ve picked you’re top three colleges, and you’ve even filled out the
paperwork. You’re done with everything, that is, except for the college essays.
Balls of paper fill the floor behind you as you start and stop each essay. You
haven’t even started on your college education and
those pesky educators already have your writing essays!
Don’t let writing jitters hold off your education goals
College administrators will use your college essay to assess to things about
you:
• who you are as a candidate student based on what you decide to write about
• how skilled you are at writing (and thus they’ll infer also how good of a
student you’re be at their college).
Don’t skip writing college essays just because you’re afraid that writing essays
aren’t your strongpoint. Just make sure you start them in plenty of time to get
help on them. School counselors and English teachers should be more than glad to
work with you and help you on your college essays.
Whatever you do, don’t plagiarize even one sentence of your
essay. College administrators use tools to check
to see if essays are plagiarized and if they find one that is, they won’t give
you a second chance. There are simply too many other great candidates for their
school for them to turn to instead of risking letting a cheater into their
college.
