Preparing for interviews involves a number of discrete tasks:
• Find out as much about the company as possible before you go in.
• Try to find out what your prospective boss gets paid; you need this if you end
up getting pressed for salary requirements. Try to push off salary requirements
until you get a firm offer from the employer. You don’t want your salary
requirements to be criteria that the employer uses to rule you out.
• If you’re trying to change careers, make sure you’ve studied up on the new
career. If at all possible, get certificates or accreditations within your
prospective career before you walk into any interviews.
• Think about questions you can ask that will demonstrate your initiative, zeal,
and understanding of the problems that your prospective employer faces.
