is that in today’s world, even with the Internet and e-mail, we still need to
communicate in a professional manner. With your
education, whether it is in a formal setting or online, you learn to write
but not in a business style. In the world of business, most of what you end up
doing is communicating information or requests to each other. If you send out

Use business writing rules for your resume
You can use business letter writing strategies to improve your resume. Here,
at a high level, business writing strategies that you can use when updating your
resumes:
• Consider your target audience. Who will receive your
resumes? Write to them.
• Use plain English. Take out any superfluous or trite phrases.
• Keep it short. Most resumes can be cut down to one page. If you must, go to
two but unless you’re writing a curriculum vita, you don’t need more than 2
pages for your resumes.
• Watch your tone. In resumes, while you want to sound confident, you don’t want
to come off superior to your boss.
• Call for action in your closing. For resumes, make sure you include a cover
letter where you include what you want the reader to do on your behalf (try not
to be so blatant as to ask them to hire you).
Types of Business Letters
Acknowledgement Letter is good public relations maneuver.
Adjustment Letter is a response to a written complaint.
Complaint Letter advises a business that an error has been made or that a defect
has been discovered.
Inquiry Letter is to get the reader to respond with an action that satisfies a
request.
Order Letter, also known as a PO (purchase order), begins the paper trail of a
specific purchase.
Response Letter answers the questions asked in an inquiry letter.
